Just recently bought a BX22 here in MA, for a residential area with an acre of land(somewhat steep). I went back and forth for about 1 1/2 years wondering to buy the B7500 or the new BX22. Looked at all the data, spoke to owners and really research the JD and the New Holland. Choose the BX22 and I'm very pleased with the tractor. I sold my Toro wheel horse 264 and plan to use the BX22 for mowing. Which is a better mower, the 54" or the 60"? Keep in mind, my land has a lot of oak trees to cut around. I plan to buy the bagger also sometime this summer. The price from my dealer for the 54" was $1500. Any info would really be helpful.

I like a small tractor and the largest deck that I cn fit under it. To do this you need to know the narrowest area you need to go between. To have a deck that is narrow will put the tractor closer to your trimming area's and more than likely will give you scratches on the tractor and make it more difficult to trim. We have not sold that tractor to date with a 54" mower that I know of and everyone enjoys the power. ....

Thanks Art, is there any problems with the bagger regarding the 60" over the 54". My dealer up here, said it would probably be better to get the 54" instead of the 60". I didn't get a price on the 60. What's a fair price? Does it clog easier? Get back to me when you can.

Like a lot of readers on this site, I use a BX2200 with 60 inch deck and can tell you that it's perfect. With the Hydro tranny, it's as accurate as a push mower. I don't know why you'd go with 54, unless you can't fit a 60-inch deck between your trees. Let's face it, another six inches on even one acre can cut time. One question: Are you really going to cut with a BX22? Isn't it a pain to take the backhoe off? Or will you do it with the front and back implements on? ....

Well Paul, the plan was to remove the Hoe and FEL durring the summer months. I`ve already remove the Hoe several times, and after a couple times, its become quite simple.
The reason for not looking into the 60" was based on the dealer, not ME. He informed me to stick with the 54", expecially if I plan to by a bagger( he said it gets clogged less often at the chute). Thus my reason for writing to this forum. Its not a problem to cut around the trees with the larger deck, and I wanted an all purpose tractor, exactly what Kubota had in mind when they designed this machine. Have you ever used the bagger? I'm curious to see how well it works. ....

An all purpose machine? The BX22 is the swiss army knife of small tractors. I can have my backhoe off and the three point gear in place in under five minutes. My BX will easily traverse areas on my land in two wheel drive that my JD 4100 would only go to in 4wd. I am just as pleased as I can be with this machine. ....

Mark,

You need to post your experience with both the 4100 and the BX22 so that those comparing the machines can benefit.

Brian, there is 1600 for the 54" and 1800 for the 60". The vacuum that goes on the tractor although it is powered will not have any trouble with the 60" deck. If you can fit thru go with the 60", it overhangs from the tracto futher and will make trimming easier by far. I normally recommend a trailer style vacuum for the best of all worlds and the best investment. With a trailer you don't have the bagger unit riding on the back of the tractor all the time. When getting started you cut in all the tight places, then hook up and go, your capacity is greater so you don't need to stop so often and it is easier to dump. When it comes time you want to switch tractors you can keep the vacuum and purchase another boot to fit your new unit and you don't need to buy another bagger or get near nothing for trade-in on it. I like the trac-vacs as they have excellent sucking power and use a tapered trailer so the load slides out easily. I have several customers that are using this system and replaced there tractors up to three times for a little over $100. ....

I have a BX1800 with a 54 inch deck.Reason is I or really the wife, mows around our mile of stone walls and the old pasture. It's not too even in alot of places. I was concerned about the deck almost hitting the dirt on one side but being up in the air on the other side. That's why I went with the 54 and not the 60.Now if I was only mowing the lawn,I would of went with the 60. ....
